Climate
June temperatures range from 9C to 17C. On average there are 13 hours of sunshine per day and 16 hours of daylight. However, remember you are in Scotland – be prepared for showers!
Currency
The local currency is the UK British Pound £ (GBP). Although many large hotels and shops accept Euros you may not be offered the best exchange rate.
Electricity
The standard electricity supply in Glasgow and Scotland is 240V AC. 50HZ. North American appliances need a transformer and an adaptor. Australasian appliances need only an adapter. Plugs have 3 pins and adapters are widely available.
Insurance
The Conference Organising Committee or its agents will not be responsible for any medical expenses, loss or accidents incurred during the conference. Delegates are strongly advised to arrange their own personal insurance to cover medical and other expenses including accident or loss. Where a delegate has to cancel for medical reasons, the normal cancellation policy will apply. It is recommended that citizens from EU countries bring with them a current EHIC card.

Shopping
Shops in the city centre are generally open Monday to Friday until approx. 7pm and from 10am until 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays
Smoking Policy
It is against the law to smoke in enclosed public places and workplaces in Scotland, including Hotel bedrooms
Tax Refunds
All purchase in the UK are subject to VAT @ 20%, except books and food. It is already included in all shop pricing. Visitors from non-EU countries can claim a refund of VAT from selected shops on goods to be taken out of the country under the Retail Export Scheme.
Time
From March to October, the UK operates on Greenwich Mean Time + 1 hour
Tipping
There are no set rules for tipping in Scotland. If you are happy with the service, a 10-15% tip is customary, particularly with table service. Tipping in bars is not expected and for taxi fares, it is usual to round up to the nearest pound (£)
